It is always hard to know where to begin with guest posts so
I figured I’d start by introducing myself. My name is Rachel and I am 27 years
old. I’ve been married to the love of my life for almost 5 years. I work as a
stylist at a local boutique and also have my own women’s accessory line. My
journey to becoming a mommy is downright crazy so hold onto your hats!
It all started a few months after we got married. We decided
to try having our first baby. This was not the fun and exciting experience we
thought it would be as I struggled to get pregnant. We sought the help of a
doctor and I went on medication to assist us but still no luck.
Feeling pretty stressed about the whole situation we made
the choice to start the adoption process. Adopting a child is always something
I felt I’d like to do one day and my husband was on board. The adoption process
was not an easy one either. Many highs and lows were experienced along the way.
After waiting for about a year and a half we had dealt emotionally with the possibility
we may not be parents and we were becoming more comfortable with it being just
us.
Then suddenly our world was rocked. One weekend while
visiting my mom I thought I may have breast cancer because my breasts hurt so
horribly and I felt very fatigued. My mom encouraged me to take a pregnancy
test when I got home. I was hesitant because I HATED pregnancy tests, they
always let me down. But I was a good little girl and listened to my mom. The
next morning I took a test and to my complete shock it was positive! I took two
more just to be sure…all of them were positive! It was actually 3 am when I
took the tests so I ran up to our bedroom like a mad women shacking my husband
awake. “Hun, I’m not sure but I think I am pregnant, come down and look at
these tests so I know I’m not going crazy!” My dear hubby hopped out of bed at
that ungodly hour and confirmed that it appeared I WAS pregnant! The doctor
confirmed it on Monday; I was about 3 weeks along.
But the roller coaster ride was far from over. A few days
later we received a call from our social worker. She informed us that a
birth mother picked us for her adoption plan! WOW! We were ecstatic but we weren’t
sure if they would let us go through with it being that I was pregnant. So we
told our social worker our news and she said she would discuss it with her supervisor
and the birth mom. A couple days later she informed us that her supervisor and
the birth mother still felt we would be good parents for this adoption case.
